I borrowed these 30 questions from Adventures with Shyloh.
1: If your horse could talk what would they say? What would they be like?
Radar would talk to the ponies, hang out with the ponies and probably talk to everyone about the girl he loves that ignores him. But he would also be the weird guy who hung out with the ponies!
2: If you were a horse, what would you look like (color, markings, etc), what discipline would you do, and what would you be like to ride?
I would be a dapple gray Thoroughbred who had flunked hunter & become a 3 day eventing horse. I would be calm enough for kids to ride me, but ready to get a little wild for cross country. Although, I would get annoyed if I wasn’t cantered at least every other ride (so beginner kids couldn’t ride me).
3: How many barns have you ridden at?
Five. The first was western, then I was at 3 with the same people, and now my current barn.
4: What kind of bay do you prefer? (bright bay, blood bay, etc)
5: Can you braid a horses mane? Tail?
I can do a decent running braid, but I can’t do a hunter braid. Mainly because I didn’t know how to until I had a horse with almost no mane (Radar). I can do a hunter tail good enough for schooling shows, but I would need to practice more for any other type.
6: Do you believe that you have to fall off in order to be a good rider?
No, although you will learn from falling off.
7: What do you think is more important: eq or effective riding?
Effective riding. I believe that good eq isn’t as important as making the horse do what you want it to.
8: Are there any “horse couples” at your barn?
I don’t know.
9: Favorite treat to feed your horse?
10: Silly quirks your horse has.
He will lick anything or anyone.
11: Strangest thing you’ve fed your horse.
I fed a horse a fry once, but my friends fed a pony a piece of ham. A different friend fed a different pony chex mix and doritos!
12: Have you ever made any horse friends through the internet?
13: Would you buy horse furniture?
If it fit with everything else.
14: Funniest horsey moment
When I stayed on a Shetland Pony (Belle) when she bucked, but fell off when she was walking and pretended to spook! Or most times with Stella we do a lot of weird things.
15: Post a picture of your horse (or any horse) making a silly face that you got on camera!
This is the best I have:
16: What’s a moment with horses that you wished you caught on camera?
The time that I was cantering a circle on Radar, and there was jump that I was visioning going left, but Radar didn’t see the turn. He jumped the jump (I think it was about 2’3″), and somehow I stayed on! That was when I was just jumping over little crossrails (I still am, but I can also do 20″ verticals now).
17: How old was the youngest horse you’ve met?
I don’t know the age, but there was a foal that was still living with its mother at a barn I was at.
18: How old was the oldest horse you’ve met?
Once again, I don’t know! My friend is currently riding a 26 (?) year old horse, but I think one of the other horses at my barn is ~30.
19: Opinion on colorful tack? (like red or blue)
If isn’t leather, then I like colors! (Besides pink, but I highly dislike pink.)
20: Have you ever tried horse treats? Hay?
Well, I’ve eaten carrots & I feed horses carrots, if that counts (not the same carrot though). I’ve never tried treats made specially for horses, or hay.
21: Have you ever felt like giving up on a horse?
Kind of. At my last barn I was riding the pony Lola, but someone else needed to ride her for a show, so I was put on Pedro. I believe he was an OTTB, and while I love thoroughbreds, I didn’t want to ride him. I did everything I was supposed to in lessons, I just didn’t have fun. I was warming him up before one lesson, and a tractor turned on (not even close to us). He spooked and I fell off. That was after I had been riding a pony who would test me for 4 months! Needless to say, they put me on back on Lola and, as far as I know, Pedro has been ridden very little since then.
22: Tell the story about the horse that you first felt “click” immediately with you (and if you can’t remember, most recent ;))
The first horse I felt click with me was probably Infinity. He was such a good horse for my experience level at the time. If I rode him now, he would probably be boring because I know a lot more.
23: Ever ridden side-saddle? How was it?
No, but I want to! The closest I’ve done is ridden sideways in my saddle.
24: Most interesting place you’ve ridden at.
I’m interpreting interesting as odd. The third barn I rode at (2nd set of people) was a combo of a bunch of different people. One time I was having a lesson, and someone turned on the sprinklers on me! It was a good thing that I was riding the beginner horse. I had ducked my head so I didn’t get water in my eyes, while the horse I was riding (Boomer) turned around and walked to the other side of the arena.
25: What kind of horse do you like? (sport, stock, endurance, etc)
I like hors that can jump, regardless of breed. (Although I am partial to thoroughbreds or Thoroughbred crosses!)
26: Do you feel like you have more patience with horses than people?
27: Is the horse you ride very vocal?
He is, but only if Valentine is gone and he is left alone in his stall. He has been not freaking out as much when she leaves recently, though!
28: Ever ridden in the sunset?
My lessons used to end at sunset.
29: How do you like a horse’s mane? (roached, pulled, long, etc)
I like it thick and pulled or long and medium thickness. Basically, as long as the horse has a mane that can be held on to if I feel like I’m going to fall off, I’m good!
30: What is your dream name for a horse?
Mia aka Once Upon A Time
